Alcoholism is a disease that seems to be rooted in fungus, which can be passed from generation to generation through pro-creation; in this sense, it becomes "inherited."

One of the most frustrating things we have encountered for years is that, at local meetings intended to address the alcoholic, the most common refreshments available at these meetings are baked or fried goods and coffee...exactly the  WRONG foods and beverages for an alcoholic in the quest to become sober and dry! Why? Because they are sugary, caffeine and refined grain-laden foods (which convert to sugar in gastric acid) that create overwhelming cravings for alcohol, which in and of itself is the simplest of sugars.

Logically, then, it seems the most important thing to do, nutritionally, is to cut out all foods that convert to sugar or alcohol; get them out of the house entirely, and follow the Anti-fungal Diet (see Diets and Cleanses) and Anti-Fungal Rotation Regimen (see Fungus and Anti-fungals). In fact, we encourage you to read all of the articles under Fungus and Anti-fungals because an alcoholic should recognize him/herself there and makes changes to lifestyle accordingly.

Supplements that help with alcohol addiction include a systemic body cleanse (PSOE's, such as Vital Proteozymes or Wobenzym), rebuilding the immune system (High-end beta glucans, such as NSC-100 or Vital ImmuSol), rebuilding beneficial flora in the gastrointestinal tract (probiotics, such as FloraMax 50, Vital Flora, or Ultimate FloraCritical Care, which contain 50 billion flora per capsule - an alcoholic generally needs 200-800 billion flora per day to undo damage), try herbs that have been used for thousands of years to kill fungus naturally (varieties listed in Anti-fungal Rotation Regimen), use products that help to metabolize the foods that are or partially contain carbohydrates (Glucose Support or Banaba Leaf) that are permitted for consumption (vegetables, low-glycemic fruits, tree-grown nuts, nut butters, brown rice, etc.) and drink plenty of fresh, clean water.

We also advise against using chemical sugar sweeteners, as the body does not recognize or process them as a food; they care chemicals that the body cannot convert, so they tend to settle in organs and tissues, creating a whole host of symptoms of their own. Such products often cause the pancreas to respond improperly in its attempt to metabolize chemical sugar alternatives and, when it cannot do the job, it overworks and eventually, can cease to work at all. The process can cause severe abdominal pain, cramping, cold-flushes and other symptoms similar to that of an appendicitis or gallbladder attack.
We believe continuous use of chemically-altered foods that the body has a difficult time recognizing and processing may be the link to the extraordinary increase in so-called "autoimmune" disorders in America today.

In short, consume foods in their natural state.
