Proton Pump Inhibitors (aka: acid suppressing medications) are prescribed for those with chronic indigestion, acid reflux (GERD) and esophageal irritation. Such medications generally carry side-effects such as cramping, bloating, diarrhea, gas, stomach pain and headaches because they are suppressing acid production needed to properly digest fats, proteins and carbohydrates.

Very often, people use these medications after prolonged use of aspirin, NSAIDS and other pain-killers, as well as repeated use of antibiotics. Unfortunately, these medications have side-effects of their own that can cause significant damage to the stomach lining, creating stomach ulcers, h. pylori bacterial overgrowth, heart damage, muscle weakness/cramping and other side-effects.

We encourage people to drink 10-12oz water about 5 minutes before consuming food, as this jump-starts the production of stomach acid and enzymes necessary to digest the food being consumed. Further, it is important NOT to drink water, tea, coffee or other beverages during a meal because that liquid dilutes the HCL and enzymes; thereby, suppressing the ability to digest foods properly. If you must consume a "beverage," make it unsweetened, freshly pressed pure Granny Smith apple or pineapple juice.

Following the Anti-Fungal Diet (see Diets & Cleanses) and the Anti-fungal rotation regimen, plus Naturalcare Reflux-Away, PepZin GI, the I.B.S. Kit (possible alternative to proton pump inhibitors) and Wobenzym or Vital Proteozymes (possible alternative to NSAIDS; aka: non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), a high-quality probiotic (such as Vital Flora - be sure to use the therapeutic dosage) and a high-quality immune system modulator (such as NSC-100 or Vital ImmuSol beta glucans) are generally a good idea and Mastic Gum (a resin in a capsule) helps with h. pylori overgrowth without the side-effects of commonly used prescription medications used to kill this bacteria. However, be sure to check with your medical doctor to determine whether or not such a regimen is the right idea for your specific needs!
