Fungus is a parasitic mycotoxic organism that, when overgrown, will lead to progressive diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, musculoskeletal, heart, brain and neurological disorders. The primary foods of fungus include sugar, processed foods and foods/beverages that convert to or contain sugar, metals and chemicals. Check out our anti-fungal diet (see Diets and Cleanses) and our anti-fungal rotation regimen (see Fungus and Anti-fungals) for ideas that may be helpful.

The most common types of fungal infections in humans are:
Aspergillosis -
Primary areas colonized and spread from: sinuses and lungs
Primary areas of body effected and how manifested: sinus infections, lung infections, musculoskeletal disease, heart disease, ear infections, renal disease, urinary tract infections, skin disorders, eye infections

Blastomycosis - occurs in about 50% of all infections; most commonly contracted by those engaging in activities around rivers, streams and most areas, exposure to moist/rotting wood
Primary areas colonized and spread from:  lungs
Primary areas of body effected and how manifasted: lungs (primarily in pneumonia), lung cancer, long bones, ribs and vertebrae, prostate and epididymis, central nervous system, thyroid, adrenal glands and gastrointestinal tract.

Candidiasis (Candida albicans)- There are more than 150 species of candida; however, only about 10 types cause disease in humans with significant frequency. Candida albicans is the most prevelant.
Primary areas colonized and spread from: through skin and mucosal systems of the body from soil, food, hospital environments, air and all surfaces (countertops, sinks, toilet seats, etc.)
Primary areas of body effected and how manifested: Bones, joints, central nervous system (including the brain), eyes, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, spleen, gallbladder, pancreas, vagina, uterus, ovaries, urinary tract, mouth, esophagus, resulting in cancer of any organ, diabetes, vaginitis, peritonitis resulting in anxiety, constipation, diarrhea, hiatal hernia, depression, burning eyes, rashes, dry or sore throat, inability to cope, adrenal failure, dizziness/vertigo, intestinal pain/colitis, hyper-irritability, asthma, fatigue, puffy eyes, thyroid failure, hyperactivity, indigestion, acid reflux, hayfever, insomnia, chemical sensitivity, muscle weakness and pain, panic attacks, loss of concentration, bloating, cramping, food cravings (particularly carbohydrates), dry mouth, food sensitivity, hives, odors, cold, belching, gas, migraines, headaches, bladder infections, thrush, cradle cap, spots in front of eyes, mental confusion and more.

Coccidioidomycosis (aka Valley Fever)- Common in agricultural and desert areas with high populations and water use.
Primary areas colonized and spread from:  lungs, skin, bones; most common in Arizona, central California, Southern New Mexico and west Texas, as well as areas of Central and South America with arid climates, alkaline soils, hot summers with few freezes in Winter month and yearly rainfall of 5-20". Outbreaks most commonly follow earthquakes, dust storms and earth excavation which create dispersion of this type of fungus.
Primary areas of body effected and how manifested: lungs, skin an bones but may also extend to complications in thyroid, GI tract, adrenal glands, genitourinary tract, pericardium and peritoneum. Meningitis, cough, chest pain, fever, shortness of breath, fever, fatigue, pneumonia, skin rashes, warts, arthritis of knees, wrists, feet, ankles and/or pelvic region.

Cryptococcosis- a yeast that is inhaled into the lungs
Primary areas colonized and spread from: lungs through exposure to birds, pigeon and other droppings, decaying eucalyptus and fruit trees, most often in tropical or sub-tropical areas (Southern California, Africa, Australia, Southeast Asia)
Primary areas of body effected and how manifested: lungs and immune system; most easily effects patients with AIDS, post-op organ transplants, all cancers (particularly leukemia, Hodgkin's disease, myeloma, lymphosarcoma, sarcoidosis, those undergoing corticosteroid therapy, diabetes, COPD, cirrhosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, pregnant women, post-op splenectomy, all so-called auto-immune diseases.

Histoplasmosis (specifically North American histoplasmosis)-
Primary areas colonized and spread from:  lungs, heart, musculoskeletal; small children, elderly and those with compromised immune systems are most effected.
Primary areas of body effected and how manifested: lungs, heart, musculoskeletal; pneumonia and other upper respiratory systems, COPD, tuberculosis, arthritis, severe inflammation (fibrotic tissue) of lymphs and adrenals, anemia, systemic infection with increase white blood cell, inflammation of heart, Addison's Disease, Meningitis, brain inflammation or tumors, eye infections, oral and bowel ulcers, bladder and penile ulcers, inflammation of prostate,

Paracoccidiomycosis- Primarily in Mexico, South America
Primary areas colonized and spread from:  Lymph glands from rotting soil, wood
Primary areas of body effected and how manifested: Lymph glands, mouth primarily when the immune system is compromised resulting in ulcerative lesions in mouth, nose, larynx, oropharynx, lungs, skin, spleen, GI tract, liver, bones, central nervous system, male genitourinary tract. Tuberculosis, weight loss, cough with mucus production and bloody sputum

Sporotrichosis- Worldwide but most common in tropical/sub-tropical areas of America
Primary areas colonized and spread from:  skin and subcutaneous, lymphs
Primary areas of body effected and how manifested: lesions through lymphs and skin, bones, lungs, central nervous system; arthritis, primarily of hands, elbows, ankles and knees, diabetes, tuberculosis, meningitis (rare), spondylosis, inflammation of liver, central nervous system, spleen, bone marrow, colon; made worse or enacted by corticosteroid use.

Zygomycosis-
Primary areas colonized and spread from: airborne; most prevalent in malnourished children, burn patients and those with immune system dysfunction/supressed immune systems.
Primary areas of body effected and how manifested: nasal sinuses, mouth, myofacial, immune system resulting in diabetes, ketoacidosis, facial and eye inflammation, muscles, central nervous system, sinuses, carotid artery thrombosis, cough, fever, stomach, gastrointestinal tract, heart, bones, kidneys, bladder, trachea. Causes necrosis of surrounding tissues of organ effected and also results in rapid death.
