Dogs and cats are carnivores - period. Any vegetation or grain they consume would have been consumed only by their prey, were they out in the wild and not sitting on your lap and lying on your bed.

Neither of them would ever run into a corn field, wheat field or rice patty to chase after anything to eat except rabbits, squirrels or any other animal they could take down and consume. So why would you force them to eat grain? They will eat whatever you give them because they want to please you but think about it...if you were not forcing their diet upon them, what would they eat on the street, out in the wild?

Both Dogs and cats pounce their prey, rip out the stomach and consume the contents because they know those partially digested and fermented stomach contents (vegetation consumed by their prey) will help them digest the organs, bones, blood and tissue of their prey. Raw, not cooked, bones and all! Loaded with vitamins, cartilage and other nutrients your dog or cat needs to survive. That is what your dog or cat needs. They are not vegetarians and they are not vegans.

I know vegetarians and vegans will be insulted by this statement and will vote negatively against this article; however, it is equally frustrating to serious dog and cat lovers when some people force their dogs and cats to be something they are not; it is unnatural and directly contradicts tens of thousands of years of evolution to force-feed grains and vegetables to dogs and cats. Vegetarians and vegans have other choices for pets they wish to feed according to their preferences; try seed, vegetable and fruit eating animals, like birds, geckos, iguanas and tortoises.
