My 10 year old cat has chronic urine crystals and it gets expensive always going to the vet for this. I feed him IAMS and he gets plenty of water. Do you have anything to help this further?~Candy/Simi Valley

Dear Candy~ Kidney and Bladder disorders are common to cats and dogs because of the dry foods people usually feed them (cats and dogs are carnivores and should be fed raw meats with small amounts of vegetables and no grain). For this reason, cat and dog owners should always keep Urtica Urens (Mother Tincture, not homeopathic) on-hand for such occasions. Common Juniper Tincture can be used preventatively in water each day; however, any dog or cat eating dry, grain/kibble may contract kidney, liver and pancreatic disorders despite the daily use of Common Juniper (each kibble formula is different and some may be more toxic than others – (see Commercial foods not fit for consumption).

Common Juniper flushes and balances the kidneys, liver and pancreas, while Urtica Urens increases acidity in the urine, which in turn, dissolves protein crystals in the urinary tract. A good probiotic would also be an excellent addition to increase beneficial flora in the urinary and gastrointestinal tracts (sprinkle Garden of Life Primal Defense powder over food or use Natren's FelineDophilus or CanineDophilus on food or as a nighttime snack on your finger - they love it!).

THERAPEUTIC: Urtica Urens and Common Juniper may be administered with a syringe, dropper or spoon if pet will not drink it from his/her water. It is best when mixed with a little bit of Aloe Vera Gel (we recommend Kroeger Aloe Vera Gel); although, it may be mixed with purified or distilled water.

CATS:

If your cat has no symptoms present but has displayed symptoms in the past, you may wish to add 5 drops of Urtica Urens to drinking water each day preventatively.

If your cat visits the litter box more frequently than normal and is only eliminating small amounts of urine each visit, administer Dosage (as listed above) 2-4 times per day until urine volume returns to normal.

If your cat visits the litter box more frequently than normal, expelling only a few drops or no urine at all and is straining to do this, administer Dosage (as listed above) every 10-15 minutes until urine volume returns to normal. If symptoms do not improve within 2 hours, take the cat to your veterinarian.

DOGS:

Administer as noted for cats only let dog into the yard frequently. Dogs, particularly those fed dry grain/kibble, always benefit from a preventative dose of Common Juniper and Urtica Urens in drinking water daily.

AN OUNCE OF PREVENTION: The very best diet for all cats and dogs is raw meat mixed with limited raw vegetables and fruits. If grains (dry kibble) must be fed, be sure to use nothing but human-grade pet foods with no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Humans must realize; however, that felines and canines have only been eating commercialized dry foods for about 100 years and that there feral diet has been meat and vegetation for tens of thousands of years; grain is unnatural.

When dogs and cats take down prey, they tear into the stomach first because it contains pre and post digested plant matter containing enzymes and beneficial bacteria that aids in the digestion of the meat. The stomach contents are, primarily, the only plant matter they ingested. Other animals are the natural diets of all cats and dogs. Grains are unnatural to the canine and feline diet and are the primary cause of all illness and disease. Period.
