People often ask about our Giant Schnauzer, Barron, who passed from cancer. We made a lot of mistakes with Barron but this amazing angel became our teacher. In his memory, we share his story with you.
When Barron was young, he had hot spots. After running allergy tests, the Vet told us he was "allergic" to beef, turkey, chicken and lamb, and that he should be on a vegetarian diet. So, we put him on Nature's Recipe kibble (dry) diet because the Vet said it was the best thing we could do for Barron. When the Vet told us he also had allergies to pollen, molds, etc., we gave him daily antigen injections.
In 2002, Barron seccumbed to a cancer tumor of the myelial sheath (the area where micro-chips are placed, vaccines and antigen injections are given, at the back of the neck). This was diagnosed through an MRI after we noticed he was losing muscle mass and was limping; we thought be broke his leg ~ we never expected cancer!
The Vet who performed the MRI recommended putting Barron to sleep; however, we decided to try some natural alternatives first. The natural alternatives worked very well; Barron was running, chasing birds and even climbing stairs for awhile.
Unfortunately, 3 things occured that deterred our miraculous progress...(1) Barron consumed some protein bars we picked-up as samples at the Natural Products Expo, where retailers review and sample the latest and greatest natural products available in our market; protein bars often contain soy, which is actually an indigestible grain, and fructose or cane sugar...(2) When Barron had the MRI, he also had an IV, which created a staph infection in his paw. Barron was placed on antibiotics, which since they are created from mold, are one of the worst possible things for anyone's immune system (and also feed cancer), then (3) After one month of doing exceptionally well, the Vet wanted to check to see if the cancer metastasized to Barron's lungs. It had not; however, the anesthesia used to put Barron under... (please read the attachment for the whole story)...
