I have been listening to HealthTalk LIVE on my drive home from work (Sirius XM radio 170) for about six months now and I am intrigued with discussions about the overgrowth of fungus in our bodies. I wonder if this is my husband's problem. I have so many concerns about the amount of medication he is on and am hoping you could give me some advice.
Bill has been dealing with allergies and asthma for several years now. It worsened when we moved to FL 5 years ago. He has had two sinus surgeries where they grind down the polyps in his sinus cavities, and as he was told, they grew back again. He had an extremely rough time with the last surgery; his doctor told me he bled a lot. He didn't talk for four days while he was recuperating due to a severe headache. He gets migraines occasionally and when he does they last for a couple of days and he frequently vomits from them, walks the house all night or sleeps in the chair. He burned a hole in his stomach taking too many ibuprofen when he had these migraines.
He also had his gall bladder removed three years ago due to the severe pain he was experiencing in his back but he is experiencing some of the gastrointestinal symptoms you talk about on the show. He is on the following medications:
Nexium (stomach ulcer) Cozaar – blood pressure (he occasionally had high blood pressure but not all the time. He told me it runs about 140/90 without the meds) Crestor –Cholesterol (not that high....I believe it was around 200) Flonase – allergies 1x a day Symbacort – asthma 1x a day Singular – allergies 1x a day Zrytec – allergies 1 x a day Advair inhaler - asthma (when needed) Xopenex inhaler – asthma (when needed) Zolair shot – asthma 1x a month Allergy shots – 2 x a month (cat hair, molds, grasses, pollens) Nebulizer – asthma when needed
He breaks out occasionally in hives on his feet/ankles and hands and the itching drives him crazy! His eyes swell up occasionally with bags underneath and he is tired, which he says is most likely because he can't breathe. He wheezes almost all the time! He has NO sex drive which I think is from the meds also. We do have three cats which are outside most of the time, but we had cats before and he didn't have breathing problems like he has now. He craves sweets, chips, breads, starches in general. But I love carbs also breads, potatoes (any kind), rice, etc. We do eat fresh veges and a lot of salads which we like to vary and we eat a lot of meats, but the diet interests me. Can you never have these starches? Please help!!! Linda - FL
Asthma, bronchitis and airborne allergies are part of the same problem and are a progression of, most likely, fungal overgrowth; although, polyps may also mean your husband has a parasite. This may be from as far back as birth or childhood and, because the root cause was never addressed, it has progressed to what it is now. If he has been on antibiotics, steroids or had surgeries under anesthesia (which compromise the immune systems ability to protect itself), spent time in a moldy/mildewy home, school or office (which would have been inhaled), if he swam in rivers, lakes or streams, all coupled with a high sugar, grain and/or starchy diet, may be why his health progressed to this point. If nothing changes, it will continue to progress (to COPD, diabetes or other progressive disease).
The trouble with the medications being used (although they work to help him breathe in a pinch) is that, over time, they cease to work as well as they once did, more is needed to work well and many of them cause fungal overgrowth, particularly inhalers like Advair. It is also not unusual for certain types of these medications to lead to high blood pressure, depression, anxiety and other side-effects. Further, the blood pressure and total cholesterol you listed are not out of line, per many medical doctors with whom we work regularly! Was a C-reactive Protein Study performed to determine inflammation in the body? How about homecysteine levels?
Articles we recommend reading include everything under the category "Fungus and Anti-fungals" and the Anti-fungal Diet under "Diets and Cleanses," all in this KnowledgeBase. It is essential that your husband avoid the foods that create mucus and feed fungus or he is fighting an uphill battle.
Products that may be helpful include:
The Allergy Package The Blood Sugar Metabolism Package (or just Glucose Support for sugar cravings) The Digestion Package To see these packages, click onto "Radio Specials" in the upper-middle section of the homepage at www.vitaganza.com. All items in packages may also be purchased separately but the instructions for each item, as listed in package instructions, should be used in most cases. The Oil of Oregano/Oregamax Package is something we recommend keeping on hand at all times, particularly if he catches a cold, which is likely to progress into bronchitis. This package helps to stop the cold, bronchitis, etc. in its tracks. The oil of oregano may even help with breathing; many have used it in place of inhalers along with Throat Spray with Propolis from Comvita.
Vital Proteozymes or Wobenzym to systemically cleanse the body from head to toe, heal scar tissue, dissolve plaque build-up and loosen-up the bronchus by cleansing the body of rogue proteins (use the therapeutic amounts listed in their descriptions; must not be used with prescription blood thinners/lubricators! Be sure to ask your pharmacist about all of your husband's prescriptions to see if they thin blood)
Vital ImmuSol (2 upon rising and 2 at bedtime for severe cases) which helps the immune system respond appropriately
FloraMax50 or Ultimate FloraCritical Care (2 upon rising and 2 at bedtime) to rebuild beneficial flora, which helps to counteract fungal, parasitic, bacterial and viral overgrowth
The combination of Reflux-Away and PepZin GI are alternatives to Nexium and other acid production suppressors, which generally do more harm than good (because they inhibit the body's ability to digest food properly) and often do not work. Side-effects include cramping, bloating and diarrhea. Adding in Mastic Gum would probably be worthwhile in healing the stomach ulcer.
This is all a common issue which can be resolved without prescription medications for many people; however, no regimen change should be made without the guidance of your healthcare provider, as he/she is familiar with your specific healthcare needs.
