Some children take to potty training and some do not. Each child is different and it makes no difference whether they are male or female or how old they are. Some seem "stubborn" or as if they couldn't care less that they are walking around in wet diapers or pants and some take to potty training with few, if any, "accidents" at all. Some are easy to put onto a schedule, they potty as soon as they get up in the morning, shortly after meals and before they go to bed at night. Others have no schedule at all, have wet pants regularly and even peer pressure from friends and family has no bearing. They learn how to hide it and yelling about it just frustrates you and your child.

This seems most common among younger children in the family; for instance, in most family dynamics, the older kids do all of the "the baby's" talking, pre-determining their every need, so why should the youngest child grow up ever? If this describes your family unit, encouraging the older sibling(s) to join in the process of helping "the baby" use the potty like a big kid can be rewarding for everyone involved.

It is smart to remember that in 1, 3, 5 or even 7 years, these kids have grown an awful lot, particularly in what will probably be an 80 year + life-span! They are walking, running, talking, beginning pre-school, kindergarten and elementary school before you know it - so quickly, you can still remember how wonderful they smelled as newborns, how incredible it felt to hold this little bundle in your arms and it is hard to believe how quickly they are becoming their own unique person. But you have to let them BE that unique person. If you do not, there will be a lot of drama in your house and it will not be worth it in the end. There are disposable pants for bigger kids now, probably in response to frustrated parents everywhere, which should tell you that you are not alone.

Have a discussion with your child's pediatrician. There could be a physical anomaly present; for instance, urinary, kidney, urethra and bladder infections, or dysfunction due to lack of physical maturity, are common in children and some can be quite serious. Even you were born unable to control your urinary tract and bowel functions and someday, you may lose control again (remember, one of your kids may be changing your diapers one day!).

I know we are making this a bit light-hearted; after all, if you are reading this, you are probably at wits end and need a laugh. You may even think this situation will never resolve itself...but it will and everything will turn out fine.

There are homeopathic Bedwetting Tablets available that work very well. Taking a good, high-end probiotic, such as Ultra Micro-Plex is a great idea, mixing about 1/2 teaspoon in water or a little bit of unsweetened apple sauce in the morning and again at bedtime. Sometimes, there can also be a deficiency of amino acids. Piercing (with a pin or needle) one Formula 50 and squeezing the contents into unsweetened apple sauce or apple juice twice per day may help

This, and a calm, cool head, should help to make the situation better and help you to put your child on a schedule that works for both of you.

Soon enough, they will be teens. You will have spent over a dozen years teaching them how to get by, how to become responsible, intelligent adults; they will want their freedom and you will not want to let them go...even though that is what all parents are supposed to be working toward!

So try to relax a bit...enjoy them while they are young and make every minute count. They will be asking for the keys to the car any day now.
