What about the Baby?

We are asked questions all the time about caring for babies. Naturally, parents need to go with their own instincts and research to determine what is best for them and their baby. The most common questions are the following and the responses are purely our opinion, having been parents long ago, but we have some things we would definitely do differently had we known then what we know now.

I cannot breast feed and I know my baby should not have soy formula but it seems as though every formula out there has soy in it! What do I do?

There are a number of soy-free, gluten-free goat's milk or rice milk organic baby formulas available, such as "Toddler Health Formula" and Holle Organic Formula" which you can find through any search engine. Some parents even make their own "formula" using powdered or raw goat's milk and adding fish oil, liquid baby vitamins and liquid antioxidants from real fruits and vegetables.

The doctor says my baby is too young to start cereal, fruit and vegetables but he is constantly feeding and never satisfied! What do I do?

If your baby was overdue or large at birth, he may need more nourishment than the average child and we think American babies are being born larger/taller than in recent decades. Try mixing a little bit of organic brown rice cereal into some breast milk or formula; your baby will probably also sleep through the night! Now wouldn't THAT be nice?

I would prefer to make my own baby food. What do you think?

We think that is wonderful! We used to make our children's baby food, using organic dried apricots (soaked in organic pineapple juice overnight), pears, peaches, green beans, squash, sweet potatoes, etc. and puree-ing them in our CuisineArt. By the time our youngest was off of baby food, I had burned through one CuisineArt and moved onto another but it was well worth the work and was significantly less expensive than buying and storing dozens of jars of food. Nowadays, baby food is in plastic for easier storage, which we think is asking for trouble. Acids from fruits and vegetables can cause leeching of xeno-estrogens from the plastic containers with foil "lids" into baby's food. Feeding fruit and vegetables instead of feeding juice is smart; please be sure to give your baby plenty of water everyday.

My baby has been suffering from constipation from birth and we don't know what to do. The pediatrician just puts him on laxatives but that can't be good. What should we do?

As we often say, when baby's are not as healthy as they should be, they probably contracted a yeast, fungal, parasitic or other micro-organism overgrowth from Mom, who may not have been as healthy as she could have been when she was pregnant. It would not suprise us if YOU are also constipated. If you consume 2-3 meals per day, you should have at least 2-3 bowel movements (or more) per day. If not, you are constipated. You can help to fix this problem by giving baby probiotics in the morning and at bedtime. Try Ultra Micro-Plex probiotic because it can be put into baby's formula, food or even water. BY THE WAY, this is also what we would recommend if your baby has diarrhea. Probiotics balance the gastrointestinal/urinary tract in everyone, from birth to death.

OK, well, my baby does get sick a lot (constantly rubbing his nose, sneezing and stuffy nose), and maybe I wasn't as healthy as I could have been when I was pregnant, so what do I do now?

There is too much chronic illness among American babies today, we think. If you are planning a future pregnancy, please check-out the article under the category, "Women's Issues" about pregnancy; you will be very happy you did.

Meanwhile, you could open up an NSC-100 or Vital ImmuSol Beta Glucan capsule into his formula, water, fruits or vegetables in the morning and again at bedtime, plus give him the Ultra Micro-Plex probiotic (1/4 tsp) also in the morning and again at bedtime; it is fine to mix both together. I would concentrate on low-glycemic vegetables and fruits, such as sweet potatoes, squash, green beans, carrots (if you make your own, put in some beets and parsley too), plums, apricots, pears, peaches, apples and blueberries. You are also encouraged to freshly press vegetables and fruits for your baby and also give 1/2 teaspoon of Eskimo-3 Fish Oil LIQUID to baby at bedtime each day. It is molecularly distilled and guaranteed free of metals and chemicals, unlike some that are in commercial baby foods and formulas (commercial DHA in foods/formulas is being held by the FDA as dangerous and causing gastrointestinal distress; in a decade of experience, this simply has not happened with Eskimo-3 Fish Oil, probably because it is not a cheap, mass-marketed fish oil).

My baby is only 6 months old and he has already had 2 major ear infections and has been on antibiotics. I don't think this is a good start. Help!

Ear oils, such as mullein oil, are excellent for keeping baby's ears clear. He could be getting water in his ears and babies have small eustachian tubes until they are about 7-8 years old, so this is not uncommon at all. The problem is that he has had to be on antibiotics (the PINK stuff - Amoxicillin liquid), so it becomes important to give him probiotics to restore lost beneficial flora throughout the gastrointestinal/urinary tract. Also, see the question above for chronic illness.

What about vaccines? Can I avoid them if I am a stay-at-home-mom? What about if I work and have to put my baby in daycare?

It is much easier to avoid vaccines if you are a stay-at-home-mom than if you are working mom but both can make decisions regarding vaccines, even though doctors tend to guilt us into a vaccine regimen. A baby's immune system simply is not strong enough to handle the onslot of vaccines given in the first 5 years of life and many believe the toxic chemicals, metals, etc. in vaccines contributes to autism and other mental and physical anomalies.

If you type VACCINE into the Search the KnowledgeBase search box, you can read about vaccines and even share the information with your baby's pediatrician. There also forms you can sign to avoid vaccines and many homeopathic pediatricians can give your baby homepathic vaccines that do not carry the side-effects of commercial vaccines that contain harmful preservatives and metals/chemicals to keep molds from forming. If your pediatrician argues, feel free to have him/her pull the PDR (Physician's Desk Reference) to look at the ingredients of those vaccines! It is all there.

So never think you are without choices. If you decide to give vaccines to your baby (most receive a series before they ever leave the hospital!), be sure the doctor uses "single use vial" vaccines, as there are less toxins used.
