I heard progesterone is bad for you and that it is on a list of harmful substances. What do you know about this? ~ Melanie, Riverside, CA
Since you are from California, you are probably referring to the "progesterone" that is on a list of toxic products from Proposition 65, passed by voters in the 1970's and finally enforced in the 2005-2006 timeframe. How was anyone to know how their vote would be implemented, all these years later, when the idea of getting rid of carcinogenic products sounded like a no-brainer, great idea?
Unfortunately for many, progesterone in general was on the list, including safe, natural progesterone enhancers. The progesterone on that list should only have been the synthetic progesterone, right along with the synthetic estrogens and testosterones found in prescription drugs that are linked to cancer. That was the intent. Note that prescription HRT (hormone replacement therapy) drugs still exist, by the way!
In 2005 and by the end of 2006, all natural progesterone on any shelf anywhere in California was required to be removed immediately. Many California manufacturers, and even retailers, were fined and forced out of business, as a result of carrying or selling natural, wild yam creams. These businesses either never recovered or moved to a neighboring business-friendly State, where adult citizens are allowed to make decisions for themselves without being micro-managed and penalized with extra taxes and fees by State and Local Government.
Recently, thanks to those who stayed and fought, natural progesterone products from wild yam are allowed back on the shelves in California. Natural progesterone, from wild yam, is generally considered safe and very effective for offsetting the harmful effects of the common American, high-sugar, high alcohol or soda and high grain/starch diet. Coupled with the "xeno-estrogens" (chemically-induced estrogen overload) people consume from products wrapped/served in petroleum-based containers, such as plastics and Styrofoam (polystyrene), there is no wonder Americans are among the least healthy people in the world! The chemicals from these containers permeate the foods/beverages they hold and cause chemical hormone changes in those who use them. This includes groceries from the store (such as drippy meats placed on plastic and fiber "diapers", on petroleum-based Styrofoam trays, wrapped in petroleum-based plastic wrap).
Petroleum-based containment products, chemical sugar substitutes, processed foods and most soy products are believed to contribute heavily to breast and uterine fibroids, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, cervical and breast cancer, poor memory and focus, thyroid and adrenal dysfunction, menstrual and menopause irregularities, low blood platelet counts, a weakened immune system or auto-immune system, neurological dysfunction to brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves, fatigue, nervousness, depression, anxiety, moodiness, difficulty sleeping and other acute or chronic dysfunction of the nervous system. Women have got to make changes to diet and how the foods they consume are contained and even cooked (microwaving or baking in petroleum-based plastic containers is just asking for trouble).
Natural progesterone from wild yam is used to counteract thyroid, adrenal and lymphatic dysfunction, osteoporosis and osteopenia, as well as the negative symptoms present in PMS and menopause. Many young women today have breast and uterine fibroids and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome). In our opinion, these are all rooted in fungal overgrowth and hormonal imbalance, so Kokoro Women's Balance Creme would be an excellent addition to any daily regimen, as would the Anti-fungal Diet (see Diets and Cleanses) and the Anti-fungal Rotation Regimen (see Fungus and Anti-fungals). Adding in PSOE's is a good idea for a fully systemic cleanse (type PSOE into the KnowledgeBase Search box for more information). It is equally important to take supplements that will enhance/correct immune system function (Vital ImmuSol or NSC-100) and to build beneficial flora using high-potency probiotics (Vital Flora, FloraMax50, Ultimate FloraCritical Care).
Natural progesterone is probably one of the greatest but most under-utilized creations for most women in America today. It is usually applied to fatty areas of the body once or twice per day and naturally helps to offset estrogen dominance. For that matter, progesterone aids with male Andropause and various prostate conditions.
