Chemotherapy is a rapid, toxic way to destroy cancer cells but may be indicated for rapidly-growing progressive cancer; although, the patient should know that chemotherapy also destroys healthy cells. Chemotherapy destroys the immune system and causes most patients to become weak. Further, antioxidant supplements should not be used during the chemotherapy process because anti-oxidants reverse the intent of the chemotherapy and may prolong the length of therapy in the process of destroying cells.

DIET during chemotherapy: It is important to eliminate all sugar-based foods and beverages, grains and starches (except whole-grain brown rice) and processed foods during chemotherapy. Consume proteins in whole-food, unprocessed form (organic and wild), organic non-starchy vegetables and organic, low-glycemic fruits (not juices or dried fruits). Drink plenty of purified water. Please refer to the Anti-fungal Diet under Diets and Cleanses in this KnowledgeBase.

SUPPLEMENTS during chemotherapy: Because it is important not to use antioxidants during chemotherapy (get small doses of antioxidants through foods only), supplements that do not conflict with what the chemotherapy is doing should be considered. Vital Nutrients Vital ImmuSol or NSC-100 (both high-quality, tested, beta glucan products) may be used to maintain a stronger immune system so that the patient, in nearly all cases, remains strong enough to continue and complete chemotherapy. Vital Flora, FloraMax50, SupremaDophilus or FloraMore (all probiotics) are excellent additions for preserving gastrointestinal/urinary tract health during chemotherapy. These should be used in therapeutic amounts, depending upon the type of cancer and length of therapy. In general, a therapeutic amount of Vital ImmuSol or NSC-100 will be a minimum of 2 upon rising and 2 at bedtime, empty stomach). A therapeutic amount of probiotic (specifically 50 billion live per capsule Vital Flora or FloraMax50) will be 2 upon rising and 2 at bedtime, empty stomach (the cancer patient will need between 200-400 billion flora per day, so read labels to determine how much of your probiotic you will need to equal that amount per day).

It is important to understand that chemotherapy involves injecting (or swallowing) chemically toxic medications into the body. The very chemicals that are used to kill cancer cells become chemical toxins that can settle into tissues, organs, etc. and result in cancer in the same or other parts of the body months or years later. For this reason, it may be prudent to consider using a PSOE (proteolytic systemic oral enzyme) formulation, such as Vital Proteozymes or Wobenzym, to bind to and systemically cleanse the body of all chemical residues post-therapy. PSOE's also help to repair and regenerate tissues and organs that may have undergone damage during the chemotherapy process. The minimum dosage will be 10 tablets upon rising, 10 midday and 10 at bedtime but may need to be increased. Generally, they are used for 2-3 months at this dosage. This is the time that antioxidant supplements, such as Vitamins A, C, E, minerals, grape seed extract or grape skin, Yaeyama Chlorella, etc. may be added into the daily regimen.

PSOE's should NOT be used during chemotherapy because they will evacuate the chemicals from the body before they do their job.

The same regimen may be prudent for those undergoing Radiation therapy, as well and for the same reasons. As with anything, be sure to discuss any regimen with your medical doctor to determine whether or not this is right for your specific needs.
