There is much controversy surrounding Vitamin D and which type is best. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is a natural form of Vitamin D that is derived from fish, beef, liver, egg yolks and raw dairy products that have not been fortified with synthetic Vitamins. It aids with proper absorption of vitamins and minerals, such as Vitamins A and E, calcium and phosphorus.
This brings us to Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol), which is a synthetic form of Vitamin D that is cheap and plentifully used in most mass-marketed and pharmaceutical multi-vitamins. Unfortunately, it is also used to "fortify" most milk and dairy products. Vitamin D2 is much less absorbable than Vitamin D3 and is believed to cause a deficiency of absorbability of other vitamins and minerals.
Vitamin D deficiencies lead to many health issues, such as autoimmune disease, gastrointestinal dysfunction, headaches, nausea, various cancers, diabetes and bone diseases. As do most, we believe Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is better to use, is safer to use and is the most protective.
Vitamin D3 is also processed from cholesterol in the body through exposure to sunshine, so as much as there has been discouragement in the past 20 years about going into the sun, we believe the sun is there for a reason and that it is healthy for your body. It not only helps plants grow but it also grows our bones and tissues; it is essential to live as we know it! Just don't overdo.
If you must be in the sun for prolonged periods of time, we recommend using VitaGanza's Beta Carotene, a natural source from fish liver oil, guaranteed molecularly distilled and free of metals and chemicals, which converts to Vitamins A and D and protects from too much sun. For those who spend 20 minutes or less in the sun per day, take 1 - 25,000 IU softgel per day. For those who spend hours of time in the sun each day, it is recommended that you take 4 - 25,000 IU softgels per day (total of 100,000 IU) and no, that is not too much protection.
We believe humans and animals should avoid synthetic Vitamin D2 and should use Vitamin D3 - get out into the sun and enjoy ~ just like anything, do not overdo!
